Your keys, your format: custom licence key formats for apps and resellers
Make your licence keys look like your brand, such as MYAPP-XXXXXXXX: one format per app, a different one for a single batch, imported keys from an older system, and a format for each reseller
A licence key is the first piece of your product a customer holds. A key like NOVA-7HZE4K2Q tells them at a glance which program it belongs to, and lets your support team spot a key from another product straight away. PWF Auth lets you choose what your keys look like, for each app, for a single batch and for each reseller
How a format works
You type the shape of the key, and every # becomes a random letter or digit. The rest stays exactly as you type it, always in upper case:
MYAPP-########makes keys likeMYAPP-7HZE4K2QPRO-####-####-####makes keys likePRO-8K3D-7HZE-XW4N
A format needs at least 8 #. That keeps enough randomness in every key that a customer can't guess another customer's key from their own. Leave the format empty and you get the standard XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
One format for each app
Open Applications, edit your app and fill in Key format. A live example shows under the box as you type. From then on, every new key of that app uses it: the keys you generate in Licences, and the keys your team makes from the Telegram or Discord bot
A different format for one batch
Sometimes one batch needs its own look: a giveaway, a partner, a test. When you generate keys in Licences, pick Custom under Key format and type a format for this batch only. Your app's format stays as it is
Keys from an older system
Moving to PWF Auth from another licence system? Import keys takes up to 5,000 keys, one per line, so your customers keep the keys they already have. Each one starts fresh on its next sign-in with the length you pick. Tick Other key formats if your old keys are not in groups of 4 to 8 characters
A format for each reseller
Each reseller can have their own key format too. Open the reseller and choose what their keys look like:
- your app's format
- the standard key
- a format you type for them, such as
SHOP1-######## - or let the reseller choose it themselves in their portal
A key's format then tells you who sold it before you even open it
The words your customers read
While you're making the keys yours, make the messages yours too. On the app's card, Messages lets you write what customers read when a key is refused or a session ends, in any language, with placeholders such as {key} and {app} that the server fills in
